At which hotel do you cross the Equator to get from the lobby to the restaurant?
Every guest at the
Mount Kenya Safari Club in
Nanyuki, Kenya,
crosses the Equator to get from
the entrance of the main
building to the restaurants.
To prove that this dividing
line is truly the Equator, the club invites guests to a daily
demonstration: On one side of the line (the north), they
watch water flow clockwise through a hole, while on the south
side they watch water flow counter-clockwise. (The water
is neutral when right over the Equator and flows without
circling.)
Where will you find
the world's shortest drawbridge?
Somerset
Bridge, built in 1620 to link Bermuda's
mainland with
Somerset Island, is reputed to be
the world's shortest
drawbridge. The part of the bridge
that can be raised
and lowered measures only
13 inches - and the value
of such a tiny opening is
to let the masts of sailboats get
through.
Who invented the rolling suitcases that
everyone carries onto planes nowadays?
Travelpro
Luggage was the originator of
(and holds the patent
for) the soft-sided, upright luggage
that travelers can roll
onto an aircraft. The creator of that rolling suitcase
(and the founder of Travelpro Luggage) is Bob Plath, a former
Northwest Airlines pilot who devised a rolling bag for himself
and began making duplicates for his airline colleagues who
kept asking for the same bag.
